Sports

We are very proud of our children’s sporting enthusiasm and achievements, which have led to a great tradition and winning history when it comes to sports.  Our children have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of different sports including football, netball, swimming, athletics and sailing, both as part of the curriculum, our fabulous Sports Week in June, and our extra curricular activities.

Sports activities both during the school day and after school are led by a combination of staff, dedicated parents, local sports centres and our local secondary school, Highgate Wood.   For more details on when extra curricular sports clubs are run and contact details, click here.

Football

Emile, Scott, Rosa and Jasmine would like to tell you what has been going on lately for some of the children who play football….

“After school, every Tuesday, Louis H, Anil, Rory, Tom, Dhillon, Maddy, Daniella, Isaac, Joe, Anna (and, of course, Emile and Scott) have been attending a football league at Highgate Wood.  In the first week of the league we faced St. Gilda’s and played brilliantly winning 3-1. Our next match was against Our Lady of Muswell.  We were 3-0 down at half time, but our spirits kept us going and we eventually came back to win 4-3 with some magnificent goals being scored.  In Week 2, we only played one game and our football performance was superb, thrashing Rokesly 5-1.

Thank you to Derek for coaching us and being so supportive.”

Emile and Scott, Year 6

“A couple of weeks ago, Bob chose some boys and girls to take part in a one day football tournament at Highgate Wood. We had a boys’ team and a girls’ team and we played against Coleridge and Highgate Primary.  We won our first match, against Highgate, 2-1.  Then we faced Coleridge, who have a really good reputation, but we kept our heads high and won 2-0.  In the final we had to play Coleridge again. It was really hot that day but Trinity, Jahmahreeah, Aisha, Alexia, Megan, Hanne, Cerys, Francesca, and, of course Rosa and Jasmine, kept battling to the end, beating Coleridge 2-0 to become the champions!”

Netball

Children’s Netball

Weston Park’s netball squad is run by two, dedicated parents:   Helen and Nancy.      The squad, which includes about 25 boys and girls,  practices after school on Thursdays in the Juniors playground from 3:45 pm to 4:45pm.  Children can try out for the netball squad at the beginning of Year 5 and continue to play on through Year 6.

From February to April they play in a league of local schools, all of which are part of the Highgate Woods Family of schools.     The league season ends with a tournament in April.    If successful in the tournament, the squad can go on to represent the Borough of Haringey in the London Youth Games.

We were Haringey Champions in 2010-11 and did a fantastic job of representing our school and Borough in the London Youth Games.

Women’s Netball

Weston Park also has netball training which is ope to Mums, Carers and Teachers from Weston Park School.

Training is usually on alternate Saturday mornings from 10:15am in the Juinor’s playground.   An experienced coach leads the training sessions, which are made up of netball drills, netball games and “friendly” games against other local teams.
