Year 5
Year 5 (Peony Class)
In Maths we explored Crouch End on bycycles to help experience time durations. We also cooked pizza to learn about measuring, and have topped it all off with counting challenges in PE.
In Literacy we have been learning to write in many different styles. We have learned to write instructions, stories, non-chronological reports and even wrote letters to Rose, the school chef, successfully persuading her to bake flapjacks for the school shop.
Blue Class were actually the year group that set up the school shop this year. It helps us to learn about running a business including applying all our wonderful Maths skills. It is a new initiative led and run by us in Blue Class. We help organise it, decide on the product line up, order stock, set Maths challenges for the children, deposit the money in the bank and the best bit – spend the profits!
We have enriched our school learning experiences with many exciting educational trips. We have visited the Imperial War Museum as part of a International Primary Curriculum topic on World War 2. Our trip to the Guardian Newsroom enabled us to write some news reports about real life stories as they came through on the wires. All this, as well as a trip behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium!
Year 5 has been quite a ride. There have been ups and downs. But we have persevered, overcome obstacles, and embraced its challenges. And the best bit is, life in Blue Class isn’t quite over yet!
