Dali Class Letter – Thursday 13th October 2016
Dear Parents/ Carers,
Our trip to Sutton House will take place this coming Tuesday 18th. Please ensure that your child has a packed lunch (no nuts, sweets or fizzy drinks), water, sensible shoes and a waterproof. We will be travelling by two buses and should return by the end of the school day.
As a class reward (if we reach our target of 15 marbles), we will watch Wes Anderson’s film version ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. This is rated a PG so do let Mel know if you are not happy with your child viewing the movie.
We have been revising the two-digit multiples of 10 (10, 20, 30, 40… 90) and learning to add and subtract a one-digit number to or from a multiple of 10 with the help of a 1–100 number square, e.g. 40 + 5 and 60 – 4. We also used socks on a washing line to help work out missing numbers in addition and subtraction calculations, e.g. _+ 7 = 12 and 15 – _= 12.
In English we have continued with our poetry unit and the children have written their own poems based on Roger McGough’s ‘The Sound Collector’.
Our science skill is to solve a problem and we will be testing the absorbency of different materials.
This week in History we were learning about Tudor Food and comparing the foods of the rich and the poor Tudors.
Our sounds of the week are oe (toe) and oa (goat). Your child has the blank template to fill in along with this week’s tricky words which are:
today said school
Please could your child find a favourite poem (or two verses of a favourite poem if it is very long) and then copy it into their homework books using their neatest handwriting. They should think about why they like the poem and then practise reading the poem aloud. We will share some of the poems in class next week.
Have a great week,
Mel and Sarah
