Dali – Thursday 8th September 2016
Welcome to Dali Class!
We have the pleasure of being your child’s class teachers this year. Mel will teach Dali class on Monday to Thursday lunchtime and Sarah Canning will be teaching them every Thursday afternoon and Fridays. We look forward to introducing ourselves to you over the coming days.
We hope you all enjoyed a very relaxing summer. The children have certainly returned to school revitalised and ready to learn so I’m sure there will be an exciting year ahead!
In keeping with school policy, from next week the homework letter will be placed on the Weston Park website (on the Year 2 page) by Friday morning. Please check the website every week to ensure that you are kept up to date with the latest events. We will be available every day after school if you ever need to speak to us.
We will continue to implement the school ‘Strike’ behaviour management system. We will also reward ‘Happygrams’ to any child who demonstrates one of our good habits of learning (Resilience, Curiosity, Imagination, Discipline and Collaboration). We will have a class marble jar for whole-class achievements.
Guided Reading –Each child will be assigned to a reading group and will read to an adult at least once a week. Please ensure that your child reads daily and aloud to an adult at home at least twice a week. Guided Reading will begin next week but please ensure your child reads a book of their choice over the weekend.
P.E. – Our P.E days are Mondays and Wednesdays so please ensure your child has their LABELLED P.E kit in school on those days. Children will also need trainers or plimsolls and, as the weather turns cooler, they will need jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt for outdoor P.E. Unfortunately if children do not have the appropriate kit they will not be able to join in with P.E.
English – We have been writing about our holidays. The children have focused on using ambitious adjectives (‘wow words’) to describe their holiday activities e.g. ‘the turquoise water’.
Maths – This week we have been reinforcing our understanding of place value playing a game in pairs to see who can make the biggest/ smallest number.
Science – This week we will be introducing our topic which is ‘Materials’.
This is set each Friday and due in by Tuesday morning. Each week there will be spellings/ phonics activity, reading and either a Maths, English or a Humanities task.
English – This coming Tuesday 13th September would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. We will be celebrating the work of one of the world’s greatest children’s storytellers in school but would also like your child to bring a piece of work in from home. By Tuesday 13th, please could your child either draw or write a description of their favourite Roald Dahl character. This should be no larger than A4 and should have their name and class clearly written on the reverse.
Have a lovely weekend and do not hesitate to speak to either Mel or Sarah if you have any questions or concerns.
