Delaunay Class Letter – 11th November 2016

Notices:

  • Some children are still missing Weston Park P.E kits. They can be bought from reception.
  • The week after half term will be blue group’s turn to do show and tell.
  • Please let me know if you are able to accompany us to Stationer’s Park 1.30-2.30pm on Tuesday 15th
  • It would be really helpful if any parents are available to help build 3D models from nets on Thursday 17th November at 1.30pm-2.30pm. Please let me know if you are able to help.

English:

This week the children have been writing about why the fire started in the Great Fire of London. They chose the most important reason from a selection of reasons. They have also worked in groups to re-enact what might have happened.

Next week they will build on their acting and add in dialogue and musical instruments to make their drama more exciting!

Maths:

This week the children have done more work on partitioning. They have continued to look at splitting numbers into tens and units using different methods to help them. They have used the chips and peas analogy, and have helped change the daily school day count display by adding one more school day every morning and showing the number partitioned into tens and units.

Next week we will look at coins. We will start with smaller coins and start to recognise that size does not equal the value. We will add coins together to find a total.

Science:

In science we have been investigating animals including humans. This week we learnt the difference between carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. Next week we will be going to Stationers park to identify living and non living objects. It would be great if we could have a couple of parent volunteers to accompany us to the park! If you are able to do so we will be going 1.30 to 2.30pm on Tuesday 15th November. Please let me or the office know if you are able to help.

Topic

The children are really enjoying learning about the Great Fire of London. This week they designed a house that would have been like the ones in the 1600’s. Next week they will begin to make 3D models of the houses. They will make these from nets printed on paper. If any adults are available to help it would be fantastic. The lesson will be Thursday at 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Phonics:

Sounds of the Week:

ar (start the car)

or (shut the door)

air (that’s not fair)

ir (whirl and twirl)

High Frequency words:

Do, to, was, were

Home Learning:

Maths:

Number bonds with 6. The children are starting to use a ‘part part whole’ method to learn the connections between numbers in maths. The children need to work out all the different ways of adding two numbers to make 5 and write them into the grid like the example below. From this please help them create as many number sentences as possible.

e.g:

6
2 4

4+2=6, 6-2=4, etc.

Phonics:

The children also have a phonics task relevant to the sounds they have learnt this week.

Have a lovely weekend.
