Delaunay Class Newsletter – Friday 6th October
This week we have been learning about the importance of illustrations in stories, using ‘Bedtime for Monsters’ as our inspiration. On Monday we were very surprised to discover that we had been visited by a monster over the weekend! We spent a long time discussing and imaging who it might have been, what he might look like and what he was looking for. We explored how illustrators use pictures to set a scene and tell us lots about a character.
We have been revisiting the sounds ll, ff, zz and ss, and learning the key words me, he, she, be, we.
In maths we have been learning our number bonds to 10. We played lots of games to find the different ways of making 6, 8 and 10 and used these facts to make up our own word problems.
The children have started guided reading this week and are settling into the new routine. Please ensure that book bags are bought to school every day so that we can send the books home for your child to read to you.
We will also be visiting the school library once a week and the children will have the opportunity to bring home a book that can be shared together.
If you have any empty shoeboxes at home, please continue to send them in as we will be using them to create homes for our monsters next week.
We would also welcome any boxes, plastic containers, bottle tops etc for junk modelling.
How you can help at home.
Please read with your child for 10 minutes every day and talk about the story.
See how many different ways you can make 8. Eg 4 +4, 8+0.
Have a lovely weekend,
Sarah and Suzanne
