Dear parents and carers,

Natural History Museum Trip

This Tuesday 13th March, Year 4 have a trip to the Natural History Museum focusing on the ‘Extreme Earth’ topic. The children will be leaving just after 9:00 am and will return at 3:00pm. They will need a packed lunch and a bottle of water. We will need four parent volunteers for each class. If you would like to volunteer please see your class teacher.

In preparation for their class assembly, can Kusama students bring in any spare cardboard boxes that they have at home, thank you.

Year 4 started this week by planning a poem about the lion from ‘Tom’s Sausage Lion’. In groups, they planned and wrote the poem. Next they rehearsed how they wanted to perform the poem before performing it to the class. Lastly, they edited it and copied it up in neat in their books. At the end oft he week, the children revised the accurate use of possessive apostrophes before using them in a paragraph based on the book.

This week, the children continued to look at decimals. They began the week by completing open-ended questions based around rounding decimals to the nearest whole numbers. They then learnt how to divide whole numbers by 10 and 100 and how to use their place value knowledge to help them. Finally, they completed an independent review focusing on the methods they have been learning over the past few weeks.

The children’s topic lesson this week was based on tornadoes. The children learnt what tornadoes are and how scientists study and document them.

On Thursday, Year 4 had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic taster session for the Highgate Cricket club. All the children really enjoyed it and learnt lots of new skills.

For homework this week, the children will be sent home a spelling sheet and a maths sheet focusing on multiplication and division. Also, the children should write a book review about a book they have read recently.

Thank and have a lovely weekend,

Adan and Elisa
