Kandinsky Class Letter
Welcome to Kandinsky Class,
I hope you have all enjoyed a very relaxing summer. The children have certainly returned to school revitalised and ready to learn so I’m sure there will be an exciting year ahead!
In keeping with school policy, from next week the homework letter will be placed on the Weston Park website (on the Year 3 page) by Friday morning. Please check the website every week to ensure that you are kept up to date with the latest events. I will be available every day after school if you ever need to speak to me.
As your children have moved into Key Stage 2, they are also now permitted to wait in the playground until you come to collect them at the end of the day. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to see me.
Kandinsky’s P.E days are Mondays and Fridays so please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school on those days. Children will also need trainers or plimsolls and, as the weather turns cooler, they will need jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt for outdoor P.E. Unfortunately if children do not have the appropriate kit they will not be able to join in with the sessions.
Our science topics in Year 3 are:
- Animals, including humans
- Forces and magnets
We will have discrete subject lessons for History and Geography. History will now be taught chronologically. Our ‘topics’ for this year are:
- Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age
- The Roman Empire and its Impact on Britain
We have been writing about our holidays. The children have focused on conjunctions in sentences to describe their holiday activities and to make their sentences more detailed. We have also made punctuation posters to display in the classroom as well as revising commas and their uses.
In Maths this week the children were given a blank 100 square, using their knowledge of place value they had to re-assemble it.
This year Year 3 will be participating in the Haringey Music scheme learning recorders. The lessons will start either next week or the week after. Recorders are provided by the scheme. Rothko’s session is on Tuesday and Kandinsky’s is on Thursday.
This coming Tuesday 13th September would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. We will be celebrating the work of one of the world’s greatest children’s storytellers in school but would also like your child to bring a piece of work in from home. By Tuesday 13th, please could your child either draw or write a description of their favourite Roald Dahl character. This should be no larger than A4 and should have their name and class clearly written on the reverse
Have a lovely weekend,
