Thursday 8th March

Dear Parents and Carers

Notices

  • We are on the look out for old pots, pans, baking tins and muffin tins. If you have any at the back of your cupboard, which you are happy to donate to our messy outside kitchen we would be very grateful.
  • We are also on the look out for any outside plants or bulbs. Again we would be very grateful for any donations.

This week we have continued with our alien theme. We shared other books in the ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ series and found out that monsters, pirates and dinosaurs all love underpants too! We also read some very silly books by Nick Sharratt called ‘Pants’ and ‘Socks’. In the sand tray we had some alliterative fun filling up stinky, smelly socks with spoonfuls of sand. In the tactile area we enjoyed a cornflour and goo dinosaur swamp and on the painting table we explored printing with pirate jewels and dinosaur footprints.

Lots of the children have been busy making shakers on the making table so we made our own shakers for the exploring table. We thought about what type of sound we could hear as we shook the different containers and tried to guess what might be inside.

We have also continued to write our own ‘sticker stories’ in our beautiful marbled books. The children are all very proud of their books and are desperate to take them home. We want to keep them in school for a little longer so we can share them and put them on display, we hope you can wait a little longer to see them.

We have also made something for Sunday’s special day. If you have not received anything by Sunday don’t forget to have a peak in your child’s book bag to see if there is an envelope address to ‘Mummy’.

Outside, this week the children have been a great help moving and re-organising some of the spaces. We now have a large construction area and beautiful small world area. The children also helped to sow a new grass island on Wednesday; we are looking forward to watching it grow and incorporating it into our small world play. The messy kitchen has moved outside the Reception classroom ready for our new shared space. The children are all getting excited about the new larger area, which will be launched on Monday 19th March. We do hope that lots of you will be able to attend on ‘stay and play’ session and experience the new shared area for yourself on Friday 23rd March from 2.00pm.

Lots of the children are very keen on writing letters, their sounds and writing their friends’ names so next week we will be looking at the book ‘The Jolly Postman’. This book also refers to lots of other fairy tales so we will be having a look at these too.

As it is March, we have been talking a lot about springtime and the changes you might see. If you are out and about this weekend see if you can spot any signs of Spring. If you find any please add them to Tapestry. Don’t forget to check Tapestry to see if your child will be a focus child next week.

Thank you

Have a great weekend.
