Matisse Class Newsletter – 23rd September 2016

This week we welcomed our second group of children to Matisse Class and they have settled brilliantly! Next week our final group of children arrive, our first group will stay all day and our second group will stay for lunch. It’s a very busy time for Matisse Class!

Information for our new children this week:

I am in class on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Thursdays I work outside of class planning and preparing the Reception Curriculum and I also manage the teaching of maths across the school. On Thursdays Sue will lead the class and is joined by Donna from our Nursery.

Each week I will write a newsletter, this will be published on Fridays on the school website. Please check the EYFS class page each week to find out about our weekly learning and any class notices. I will send a paper copy for the first few weeks until all children have started.

Cooking:

Every Thursday the children cook with Sue and Donna. This week the children cooked garlic bread. The children cook in pairs so they get a really hands on experience. We ask for a £6 donation towards cooking each half term to cover the cost of the ingredients. Please bring your cooking money to Adelle or Sue a.s.a.p.

Reading:

All children have read 1:1 with Adelle this week and have books in their book bag to share with you at home. Please try to make time to read with your child for 10 minutes everyday, it really does make a big difference to their learning. Your child will have a reading record book in their book bags, please record any reading your child does at home in this book and I will record all reading carried out in school.

Your child might have brought home an Oxford Reading Tree book with no words; this book forms the first stage of reading. Please ask your child to ‘tell the story’ by looking at the pictures and describing what they can see.

We will begin learning our sounds once all children are in school and fully settled.

Tapestry Meeting:

We will be holding a meeting next Monday 26th September at 2:30pm in the school hall to explain about our use of the Tapestry website. We use the website to create the children’s learning journals and you can access the journals at home to see what your child has been up to.

I will also share information about the Reception Curriculum, including how we teach phonics and reading and will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Have a lovely weekend,

Adelle and Sue
