Matisse Class Newsletter – 30th September 2016

This week we welcomed our final group of children into Matisse Class, well done to those children for settling so quickly and brilliantly. This week marks the end of the settling in process as next week all children will be staying for the entire school day!

Each week I write a weekly newsletter, this letter is published on the school website each Friday. Please check the Early Years Foundation Stage page on the website each week to read about our learning and any class notices, you will see the link to the letter on the right side of the page. This is the last paper copy that will be sent home.

Information for our new children this week:

I am in class on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Thursdays I work outside of class planning and preparing the Reception Curriculum and I also manage the teaching of maths across the school. On Thursdays Sue will lead the class and is joined by Donna from our Nursery.

Every Thursday the children cook with Sue and Donna. This week the children cooked jam tarts. The children cook in pairs so they get a really hands on experience. We ask for a £6 donation towards cooking each half term to cover the cost of the ingredients. Please bring your cooking money to Adelle or Sue a.s.a.p.

All children have read 1:1 with Adelle this week and have books in their book bag to share with you at home. Please try to make time to read with your child for 10 minutes everyday, it really does make a big difference to their learning. Your child will have a reading record book in their book bags, please record any reading your child does at home in this book and I will record all reading carried out in school.

Your child might have brought home an Oxford Reading Tree book with no words; this book forms the first stage of reading. Please ask your child to ‘tell the story’ by looking at the pictures and describing what they can see.

Next week:

Next week the children will begin learning the Set 1 sounds. A sound book will be sent home each day so you can practise the sounds at home with your child.

Please ensure this book comes back to school everyday so we can stick in the new sound taught that day. There will be a box for the children to put their sound books in as they enter the classroom each morning. Please help your child to have their sound book ready to drop in the box.

Next week we will begin our maths lessons; we will be focusing on counting and recognising numerals within 20.

P.E will take place on Friday afternoons, please ensure your child comes dressed to school in suitable clothing for P.E e.g. leggings/ tracksuit bottoms (no tights please) as the children do not change for P.E.

Have a lovely weekend,

Adelle and Sue
