Matisse Class Newsletter – 9th March 2018

  • We are very excited for the launch of our new outside area, and wondered if you would be able to help us collect more resources if you have unused or unwanted things. We are in need of: cupcake tins, pots, pans and plants or bulbs for planting.

On Monday the fire truck came to visit!. The children had the opportunity to explore the truck, try on the firefighters clothing and ask questions. It was an educational and exciting afternoon for everyone.

On Wednesday a scientist called Yolanda came to visit. She explored the topic of space further with the class and showed us some very exciting experiments where we created light, and learnt how a rocket would take off by making our own.

Reading & Phonics:

Last week we started a buddy system with some of the children in Year 4. Each child is paired up with a child from Kandinsky Class and each week they will meet up and read to each other. This week the children of Kandinsky each chose a book to read to their buddy.

This week we recapped 2 sounds:

ou (shout it out)

ir (whirl and twirl)

In our writing session this week we referred back to our question about space that the children wrote 2 weeks ago. Most of the children now had the answers and wrote them independently! Others weren’t sure, and so we used fact books to find out the answers.
