Monet Class Letter



Dear Parents/Carers,


This week:



Year 5 wrote their newspaper report relating to the Floodlands natural disaster.




Monet revisited multiplication and division problems, moving up to 4 digit multiplication problems.



Year 5 began their new science topic of Animals, including humans by discussing what they already knew and things they would like to discover throughout this topic.


Next week


English – Monet will be writing their final copy of the “Floodland” newspaper report and writing it up on a word/publisher document. Following this will be creating a diary entry from Zoe’s perspective.


Maths – Year 5 will be recognising and using square numbers and cube numbers, and the notation for squared (2) and cubed (3). They will also be multiplying and dividing whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000.


History – Monet will be investigating the trade routes of the Viking Empire and how the links are still in force to this day.





Seeing as Monet will be writing a diary entry related to Zoe’s leaving of her parents on the boat, students are asked to read this section of the book (photocopies provided) and annotate instances of; dramatic and emotive language techniques throughout (eg. Adjectives/similes).

Year 5 has begun the topic of Animals, Including Humans. As such, students are asked to complete the Food Chains worksheet and decipher the roles both animals and humans take on Planet Earth.

Students are to learn the x12 times tables and will be tested in random order.



P.E / Swimming


Please ensure your child has the correct swimming kit (towel, swimming trunks and hat) for Monday’s lesson. If these are not brought to school, your child will not be allowed to swim and will instead stay at Weston Park Primary School for the afternoon instead of swimming.
