Dear Parents/Carers

Notices

Year 3 will be travelling together to the Chilton Open Air Museum, by coach. We are finalising the costs and will let you know by next week. If you would like to join us on our trip please let us know ASAP, it will be first come first serve.

We will no longer be using spellanywhere due to a technical issue. Instead the spellings will be sent home, on a sheet, on Thursdays.

Maths

This week in Maths Year 3 have been looking at fractions. We discussed what fraction are and why they are important. The children found halves and quarters of single and two digit numbers. Later in the week they solved investigations relating to fractions of shapes, asking the children to make the cognitive link between sharing and division.

Science

This week Year 3 have learnt about how muscles work. We discussed why they are important and what their purpose is. They learnt important scientific vocabulary such as: triceps, bicep and what contract and relax means in this context. They then made a model of the arm using cardboard, rubber bands and split pins.

English

In English this week the children completed their work on poetry. They had to create two new stanzas for the poem A Supermarket Creature Ate our Teacher adapted from a poem by Brian Moses. They focused on describing the monster and what happens to the teacher. They then had to write and edit their own poem, using all the skills and methods they have looked at over the past few weeks. Later in the week, we also began a new topic studying ‘The Stone Age Boy’, where we have been revising how to construct compound and simple sentences, ensuring that used full stops and capital letters.

Homework

On Thursday, the children will have been given two sheets; one contains spellings and the other continues our work on fractions.

Have a lovely weekend,

Adam
