Rothko Letter – Thursday 15th September 2016
Every Tuesday morning your child will take part in recorder lessons. These are delivered by Haringey Music Services and each child has been given a recorder to use in school. There is a whole-class session and then the class divides into smaller groups for more dedicated tuition.
In English this week Year 3 continued their work on Roald Dahl’s ‘James and the Giant Peach’. They started the week by reading the book and then we built up a picture of James using our inference skills. Later in the week, inspired by a section of the book, the children described different magical items using adjectives. They also used conjunctions and adjectives to describe the differences and similarities between Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker.
In Maths this week the children have been revising partitioning and place value. They have been using Dienes to show 2 and 3 digit numbers. They have also been ordering numbers up to 1000 in order to consolidate their place value knowledge. In addition, they have completed an investigation called ‘Number Detective’, where they had to use a series of skills in order to solve a problem systematically.
This week in Science Year 3 completed a KWL about their new topic of ‘Animals and Humans’. They wrote about what they know and what they would like to learn during the topic.
In class we have been talking about chronology. We have created collaged figures of Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age men and women. We used Ipads to find out interesting facts and what they wore.
Could the children please research and create a timeline of the Stone Age. This will be a 2 week homework to be displayed in the classroom.
Please list labelled 15.9.16 Kandinsky and Rothko.
Have a lovely weekend, looking forward to seeing you all at the parent meeting.
